History
In the year 1951, a young teacher, Mr. Dick Evans, set out to purchase a family vehicle at O'Rielly Chevrolet in Tucson, AZ. Upon obtaining a loan for the car purchase from a local credit union, it was suggested to him that he should start a credit union at the school he taught at, Amphitheater High School. When he shared this news with his colleagues, he found out that a few teachers were already in the process of starting a credit union for the school employees and their families. So he joined this small group of teachers and together they pooled together $84 in total assets to form what is known today as Pima Federal Credit Union. This humble beginning almost 60 years ago served as the firm foundation on which our not-for-profit financial cooperative was built. As a stable, ever growing credit union, we're truly grateful for each of our members and our goal is to help them flourish--financially as well as personally.
The founders of Pima Federal never imagined their small cooperative would one day be a financial cornerstone in the community that serves over 50,000 members with over $300 million in total assets! As Pima Federal co-founder, Dick Evans, expressed, "In those days (the early 1950's), millions in assets were never talked about. We never thought about growth--we were just glad to get a new member and our only concern was to serve our members." This sentiment holds true to this day since our organization, as a whole, still upholds the original credit union philosophy: "Not for profit, not for charity, but for service."
Pima Federal has certainly had its share of changes through the years. In the early days before two Main buildings were built and outgrown, Pima Federal was run out of a high school draft shop, a personal home and even a store front. Each added branch office, every merger with another credit union, each new financial service and member benefit that was added, every employee contribution and above all--each member that joined our credit union made Pima Federal the sound, reliable financial institution that it is today.
From their earliest origins over a century and a half ago, credit unions have supported and enriched the lives of hard-working members and their families. Pima Federal wishes to carry on this notion of service. Our vision is to be the premier financial institution of the Southwest--one that inspires and enriches the lives of our members and our surrounding communities. But of course, achieving this mission would be impossible without the loyalty and patronage of each of our valued members. With your continued support, we can look forward to supporting and guiding you with practical, smart and high quality financial tools and advise for many years to come.
